It was highlighted to me this morning that Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer has had a devaluation in its program.
They haven’t sent any communications out about it that I am aware of but Singapore Airlines is making a change to its booking class structure. This may be to accommodate premium economy coming in next year as announced previously.
So What it the Change?
The change is to Economy Class fares that are ‘K’ class. Instead of earning 100% KrisFlyer/Elite Miles for the distance flown they’ll earn just 10% a 90% devaluation. Generally ‘K’ class fares are promotional fares that are usually listed as “Super Deals” fares. There are now 3 booking classes that you should think about avoiding: K, T and V – these now all earn 10% of the Miles.
This will be effective for bookings that are ticketed from 21 August 2014, for flights on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir departing on and after 1 September 2014.
There are no changes to Business class or First/Suites earning rates. There are no changes to any of the awards charts either for redemptions.
More Devaluations in the Future?
I genuinely think that in 2015 we’ll see a devaluation, and I’ve actually written an article on it to – check out the 5 reasons why we are going to see one:
