Singapore Airlines has quietly introduced the option to pay for your preferred seats with KrisFlyer Miles.
Selecting Seats on Singapore Airlines
For those buying business class or First/Suites class this won’t be applicable to you as you’ll be entitled to free seat selection when you book your Singapore Airlines tickets. Unfortunately for those flying in Economy class you’d have to pay for seat selection. The costs for seat selection vary depending on your route:

| Band 1
| Band 2
| Band 3
| Band 4
United Arab Emirates
|Flights between the following countries|

What’s the Price in KrisFlyer Miles Using Seat Selection wit Pay with KrisFlyer Miles?
So now that Singapore Airlines has introduced the option to pay these fees with your KrisFlyer Miles you can potentially reduce the cost. I did a post a while back explaining that when you use the option of Pay with KrisFlyer Miles that the value is exactly 1 cent per mile (SGD) – so this is how may KrisFlyer miles these economy seats will cost you (I used a conversion rate of 1USD = 1.25SGD):
- 20USD – 2,500
- 40USD – 5,000
- 60USD – 7,500
- 80USD – 10,000
- 100USD – 12,500
So interestingly this came out as a pattern of increments of 2,500 for every 20USD extra in cost.

Generally I don’t think that Pay With KrisFlyer Mile is a good option for KrisFlyer members the 1 cent value is half what you should be getting – see here as to why. There are only ever two exceptions: (1) You are redeeming for a economy short-haul flight, or (2) you have expiring KrisFlyer Miles. However I really don’t think that KrisFlyer members should be using their miles for selecting seats on Singapore Airlines flights – remember you can always ask at check-in for your preference, and just go early to the airport to make sure.
