This is part of a series of articles looking into the changes that Malaysia Airlines has made to the Enrich Frequent Flyer Program. In this article I look at the change to the new earning rates fir Enrich Miles on Malaysia Airlines Flights, for the other parts check out these links:
These changes come into effect on the 16 February 2015.
Malaysia Airlines has made a few changes to the earning charts for Enrich that are going to affect some, but mostly those that book discounted Economy tickets. Below is a chart comparing the old and new earning rates:
Cheapest Business Class Rates Reduced
This is bad news for those that fly on discounted business class tickets and will affect those that in particular do mileage runs on Malaysia Airlines flights to get Enrich status levels. From the 16th February onwards you’ll earn 125% of the miles flown instead of 150%. I find it surprising that the flexible Economy tickets earn at the same rate – this is a little unusual.
Changes to Economy Class Earning Rates
On the positive side if you book in L, V or S economy class booking codes then you’ll get a slightly higher rate of 85% instead of 70%. Whereas those in the cheapest codes of N, Q, O and G will only earn 25% half of what you earned previously. This I assume is a move by Malaysia Airlines to improve yields by rewarding passengers with increased miles for more expensive tickets.
Interestingly “G” class has been introduced as a new earning code, previously it earned 0%. G is usually used for Group bookings, so this is maybe a move by Malaysia Airlines to improve the number of Group bookings.
Information That’s Not Released
There wasn’t any information in the new charts or FAQ’s about what codes will be eligible for upgrades. Previously everything down to N and Q were eligible for upgrades, but I suspect that they will no longer be considering the difference in earning rates. Malaysia Airlines have not announced any changes to partner earning rates, including those for Firefly and MASWings.
