Malaysia Airlines announced last month that it’s going to revamp its business class seating on its current A330 fleet.
This is welcome news as it means that the current sloped seats will be replaced and much nicer to sleep on. Having flown the A330 recently to Dubai I do find the current versions quite difficult to sleep on and I actually find the cabin doesn’t feel that cosy.
New CEO Christoph Mueller announced these changes earlier in the year but hadn’t previously shown the design or given a timeline.
You can find the official release about the new seats here:
Changes to the Seats and Configuration
The changes will be made to the full existing fleet of 15 A330s and will be made during 2016 by September and will start on routes to Australia.
The layout is pretty interesting as it’s a combination of 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 trying to maximize the space available in the cabin, but there is actually going to be a reduction in the seating from the current 36 to 27. I’d expect we might see some fare increases as a result – but the product certainly looks much better.
Australian Business Traveller highlights that there is a special seat too which has a double set of shelves on either the side of the seat, which will become a must pick for regular in the know flyers.
I’m certainly looking forward to trying out this new product, what to do you think of it?
