More Details on Singapore Airlines Move to Heathrow Terminal 2

Singapore Airlines has been releasing more details on its coming move to Heathrow Terminal 2 and I thought I would give you a quick summary.

More Details on Singapore Airlines Move to Heathrow Terminal 2

I posted back in May about the new “Star Alliance” Terminal at London Heathrow with some footage that was released at the time, as well as some information on the United Club Lounge (which actually looks good!).  However even though the terminal opened on the 4th of June 2014, Heathrow has learnt its lessons from the fiasco of the Terminal 5 opening and been staggering the moves.  So Singapore Airlines is scheduled to move on the 17th of September with the first departing flight to be SQ317.

Changes for Singapore Airlines Passengers and KrisFlyer Members

Generally the move to the new Terminal 2 will bring some great improvements for passengers flying on Singapore Airlines.  Not just because it’s a new terminal building but also because the other Star Alliance members will be based there making transfers between alliance members much simpler and in some cases avoiding having to change terminal at Heathrow which if you have done it before you’ll know it’s a pain!

The news releases also say that there will be a number of new lounges including the new United Club Lounge.  Singapore Airlines will be launching a brand new SIlverKris lounge in T2B – they haven’t released any photos as yet, but it’s expected to be similar to the revamped Sydney based lounge.

There are also some other changes, as with many airlines including the recent announcement by Malaysia Airlines – self check-in is becoming more popular, and this is certainly the case with Singapore Airlines at T2 in Heathrow, with 66 self check-in kiosks!  Singapore Airline say that this will reduce waiting times and allow passengers to print out their boarding passes and bag tags before dropping off their bags (at the loss of service?).
