IHG Points Purchase Promotion – Worth Transferring into Enrich or KrisFlyer Miles?

IHG currently has a promotion on that I posted about yesterday offering a 100% bonus on points purchases and I wanted to see whether it was worth transferring into Enrich or KrisFlyer Miles.

Worth Transferring into Enrich or KrisFlyer MilesThis promotion could be very lucrative if you are looking to stay at one of their higher end properties, particularly Intercontinental hotels.  I did some analysis on the previous post which you can find here.

However I wanted to look at whether it was worth using this promotion to then transfer the points into Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles.

Transferring IHG Rewards Club Points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles

IHG Rewards Club points transfer at a rate of 10,000 points to 2,000 KrisFlyer miles or 5:1.  If you were to purchase the full 60,000 with the 60,000 bonus this would cost you $690 or about $S960 SGD.  This would return you 24,000 KrisFlyer Miles at a cost of 4 cents per KrisFlyer mile (SGD) which slightly more expensive that the cheapest method through Starwood Preferred Guest – I did some analysis on this previously here.

This is still cheaper than purchasing directly through Singapore Airlines at 5 cents per mile (SGD).  This is therefore not a bad deal and could help to boost a points balance for a redemption.

Transferring IHG Rewards Club Points to Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles

IHG Rewards Club points transfer at a rate of 10,000 points to 1,500 Enrich Miles.  Meaning that the full 120,000 IHG points would transfer into 18,000 Enrich Miles at a cost of $690 USD or roughly 2940 RM.  This means that each Enrich Mile would cost 14 sen – not a great deal considering that you can buy them directly through Enrich for 11 sen per mile – see the details here.

Here is the link to purchase the points:

Conclusion

I wouldn’t purchase the IHG Rewards Club points for topping up my Enrich Miles balance, but it might be beneficial for those looking to top-up their balance of KrisFlyer Miles.  I will give some warning though that it has been seen before that these generous points purchase promotions will be offered just prior to a devaluation of a program, so please ensure that you have a redemption or rewards night booking to be made for this promotion.
