Citibank has a couple of credit cards that earn Citi Miles and this is the third review of the Citi Premiermiles American Express Card
About the Card
The Citi Premiermiles American Express Card is issued by Citibank and is a Amex branded card, it rewards you with Citi Miles – the Citibank points currency. This is again a card that’s issued in Singapore and members of Malaysia Airlines Enrich and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer can earn miles on, as well as many other frequent flyer programs.
You can find out more about the card or sign-up using the link below:
There is no miles related sign-up bonus for the Citi Premiermiles American Express Card.
Citibank has quite a few travel related bonuses and the Citi PremierMiles Visa Credit Card that will be of interest for frequent travelers:
- 2X Lounge Access with Priority Pass
- Travel Insurance
- Hotel Promotions (mostly 1 night free after X nights)
- Various Shopping related bonuses
What is the Annual Fee?
Basic Card annual fee: $267.50 (inclusive of GST). Supplementary Card: Complimentary
Bonus for Renewal?
Upon renewal of annual membership you will receive 15,000 Citi Miles, at a cost of S$267.50 (or 1.78 cents per Mile). Lots of credit cards in Singapore have bonuses for renewal and are actually a cheap way of buying Miles – we’ve checked them all out here:
What Do You Earn per $1?
- Local spend: S$1 = 1.3 Citi Miles
- Overseas spend: S$1 = 2 Citi Miles
- Spend on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, KrisShop: S$1= 2 Citi Miles
What is a Citi Mile Worth?
One of the great things about any card from Citibank is that they not only convert into Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Malaysia Airlines Enrich but also a host of other frequent flyer programs so it allows a lot of flexibility for redemptions:
- Asia Miles
- Royal Orchid Plus
- Executive Club
- Infinity MileageLands
- Garuda Frequent Flyer
- Etihad Guest
There are also a number of other hotel and experience partners.
Handily for all of the airline partners Citi Miles convert 1 for 1 so you’ll earn 1.3 KrisFlyer or Enrich Miles for local spend and 2 Miles for overseas spend. Note that a $S25 charge is levied for each transfer from Citi Miles to your preferred program.
How Does this Compare?
If you are a KrisFlyer member then you can do better on the sign-up bonus, I recommend you check out this post for details:
There are also better general earning cards like the ANZ Travel Visa Signature card and various UOB cards too. However the flexibility for redemptions is excellent, and ability to get some cheap miles for the renewal is a nice bonus too.
Sign Up Bonus – 5/10
Ongoing Spend – 6/10
I’ve given the sign-up bonus a score of 5/10 just because the card does have a few benefits that you get as soon as you have it but they are very average.
For ongoing spend though the card is a little better with a high earning rate for Singapore Airlines bookings, decent for overseas and a little below par for day to day spending in Singapore. The main benefit of the Citibank card is the ability to be flexible with using the miles.
