Citibank Expedia Credit Card Promotion – 6 Miles per $S1!

Citibank and Expedia have extended this Credit Card promotion offering 6 Miles per $S1!  This offer is available for now until the 31st July 2016 (although its been open for ages!)

Citibank Expedia Credit Card Promotion - 6 Miles per $S1!

What’s on Offer in the Promotion:

Citibank and Expedia are offering three types of reward for this promotion, based on the different types of Citibank credit cards that you can have.  This is the breakdown per card:

Earning Miles with Citibank and Expedia

For Frequent Flyers the most interesting of those is obviously the 6X CitiMiles for each $S1 spend on Expedia Bookings. With Expedia you can book hotels, flights and packages which could make this quite powerful. This includes the brand hotels (Hilton, SPG etc) and the major airlines like Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines etc.

With Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines you’ll still be able to earn your usual miles for the flights but if you make hotel bookings you won’t be able to earn your usual hotel points.

Taking Advantage of the Citibank Expedia Credit Card Promotion

If you already have a Citibank card then you can immediately take advantage of this offer.  You need to follow these steps:

More About Citibank Credit Cards for Flyers

Citibank Miles also convert into a number of different frequent flyer programs which is great for flexibility:

▪ Asia Miles ▪ Royal Orchid Plus ▪ SkyMiles ▪ Executive Club ▪ Enrich ▪ Infinity MileageLands ▪ Garuda Frequent Flyer ▪ Etihad Guest

For all of the programs the Miles convert at 1 for 1 so on the promotion you would be earning 6 KrisFlyer Miles for every $S1 of spend which is a fantastic earning rate – and not one that you see frequently in Singapore.  Note that you’ll have to pay a $S25 fee for the transfer though, so I suggest doing any transfers in larger blocks to minimize the impact.

These cards also have some other benefits that might interest you including lounge access, hotel benefits, travel insurance and discounts on Emirates – the Citibank Prestige card has been high on the best sign-up promotions list too:

Conclusion

This offer is tempting for the boutique hotels that I occasionally book where I wouldn’t normally earn any hotel points.

Buying flights through Expedia is less interesting though as you usually end up paying a little extra compared to the airline direct purchase and there’s sometimes the hassle when things screw up operationally.  But if it were close it might be worth booking through Expedia instead. Of course it’s useful to use a travel agent like Expedia where you have a mix of airlines and alliances.
