A lot of people who ride with Uber aren’t aware that you can earn Starpoints from your Uber ride as well as the earnings you make in terms of miles on your credit card.
You earn even more Starpoints if the Uber ride is in conjunction with a hotel stay or just 1 point for every $1 USD otherwise, and you’ll earn more if you’re an elite member.. This may not sound like much but I spend a significant amount of rides each month and it adds up.
The big catch is that you need to have at least one stay per calendar year at a Starwood property, which can be anything including the cheaper brands. I’m not a regular Starwood man but I had a stay at the ITC Grand Central Mumbai earlier in the year which helped me qualify. You’ll also need to use the same email address for both accounts.
If you’re not currently an Uber user in then sign-up with my referral code and you’ll get $S10 credit to go towards your first ride (note this is country specific so only available in Singapore):
Setup for the Starwood Link takes a few minutes and can be done here:
Most of the Uber rides are captured within my SPG account within a couple days, and it’s a nice feel to see then little amounts add up. You can use your Starpoints for a number of things, but my favorite use is to transfer them into Singapore Airlines Krisflyer at a 1-1 ratio. If you save up and transfer 20,000 you’ll also get a 5,000 Miles bonus. Unfortunately you can’t convert into Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles.
If you’re starting out with Starwood then consider their offer for Gold Status Fast Track after just one stay for World Mastercard holders. For those in Singapore the DBS Woman’s World Mastercard would be a good option as it’ll also earn 4 Miles per $S1 on the spend, check out our review here.
