Malaysia Airlines made a surprise change to their award chart this week that I certainly wasn’t expecting but basically there is a big improvement in the Enrich Earning rates on Malaysia Airlines flights.
Overall the changes are very positive with almost every fare class you can book seeing an improvement in its earning rate. I suspect this is to make Malaysia Airlines flights look more attractive than Oneworld partner flights when earning – the change may mean some enrich earners switch back to Malaysia Airlines to get their miles.
So some headlines:
- First Class now earns a whopping 300% so flights to London will earn 20K miles each way
- Lowest business class earns 160% the miles flown
- Flexible Economy tickets now earn 150%
One Negative Change to Earning Rates
The only negative change that I can see is that “Q” class fares are no longer upgradeable to business class – so be careful if you intend to do so when booking – I recommend you check out our guide here for more information:
This doesn’t affect rates on Oneworld or non-Oneworld partner airlines – it’s just on Malaysia Airlines flights. Codeshares will have the new earning rates applied.
Expect that we’ll see some change sin the redemption chart as they’ll need to change to adjust for the small negative change mentioned above – I really hope we don’t see any further devaluation.
Overall this is great news what do you think?
