The American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card has the highest sign-up bonus on the market and they’ve now just added another benefit too.
The American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card is issued by American Express in Singapore and is a number of Singapore Airlines co-branded cards.
The American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card has the highest Sign-Up bonus in Singapore at 40,000 KrisFlyer Miles. A spend of S$10,000 is required in the first 3 months in order to receive the bonus.
If that high spending amount is too much there is a lower offer of 15,000 miles for a S$5,000 spend.
There are a few additional benefits that you should be aware of:
- A complementary night a Millennium Hotels and Resorts properties each year
- Complimentary M&C Loyalty Club Gold membership
- 4x Lounge passes at either Plaza Premium or SATS premier lounges
- Travel Insurance
- No Fees for transferring points to KrisFlyer Miles
A perk many review websites don’t highlight is the 1 night stay for 2 people at a Millennium Hotel – this is a great perk. I had a quick look at some of the prices of the hotel available and this benefit alone could be worth $S400 for a stay in the Mayfair Millennium hotel in London.
In addition to the 1 night stay if you are not currently a member of the Millennium brand loyalty programme they offer free gold status – Cardmembers who complete and submit the M&C Loyalty Club application form included in the American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Cardmember’s Welcome Kit are eligible to join the M&C Loyalty Club as a Gold tier member without meeting the normal Gold tier qualification criteria (saving you 4 nights). Gold Tier Members receive the following benefits:
- Gold membership gives you the following:
- Fast track registration at selected hotels.
- Early check-in from 10am and late check-out till 4pm, subject to availability.
- Complimentary welcome drink.
- Broadband benefits available at participating hotels.
- Complimentary local daily paper.
- Two complimentary room upgrades at any of our participating hotels.
- 20% off our weekend breaks for your birthday.
A full list of hotels that this applies to is here: https://icm.aexp-static.com/Internet/IntlHomepage/pdf/AscendHotelsParticipatingList.pdf
Note that the vouchers also have a code that can be used for a discount for a second night.
There are no participating properties in Singapore, but there are in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.
What is the Annual Fee?
The annual fee for this card is S$256.80 and must be paid if you take up the 35,000 Miles offer (this is done on application and can’t be changed). The annual fee could be worth it if the annual hotel stay at Millennium hotels is used wisely.
Bonus for Renewal?
There is no miles related bonus for renewal but you do receive the 4x lounge passes and the free night at a Millennium Hotel. For renewal bonuses check out this article:
What Do You Earn per $1?
This card has the following earning rates:
- Earn 1.66 KrisFlyer Miles per $1 on Singapore Airlines tickets
- Earn 1.66 KrisFlyer Miles at KrisShop per $1 (in addition to those earned through KrisShop see here)
- Earn 0.83 KrisFlyer Miles per $1 on all other spend
The American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card also has a “monthly bonus accelerator”. With a minimum of S$1,000 spend in a calendar month, a bonus 300 miles will be credited for every additional S$500 in eligible purchases made in the same calendar month.
So if you spend S1,500 you’ll earn 300 and for S$2,000 you earn 600. The effect of this bonus accelerator is that once you hit the minimum threshold of S$1,500 the earning rate will continue to increase from 0.83 (under S$1,500) to 1.03 (S$1,500) to 1.37 (S$10,000).
So to maximize the earning potential of the card you need to spend in larger blocks – this is especially so for the sign-up bonus period.
What is a Point Worth?
Any spend made on the American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card goes directly into your KrisFlyer balance, there’s no need to transfer to convert – everything is one for one also. This saves on the usual conversion fees charged.
How Does this Compare?
The earning rate for this card is ok for Singapore Airlines flights but not much else. I have this card myself and will be making use of it for the sign-up and the Millennium hotels benefit.
- Sign up bonus – 10/10
- On-going Spend – 4/10
The sign-up bonus for the card is the highest in the market at 40,000 but the spending requirement is also very high. The additional benefits of the free hotel night, lounge access (although limited) and the insurance and free conversion are good perks.

What do you think of this card? Too Expensive?
